After completing a PDR under the seismic mitigation program, DA was asked to design this replacement elementary school. Located in an established neighborhood in Port Coquitlam, this 2-storey school will accommodate 425 students and 80 kindergarten schoolchildren. Working with a design committee comprised of existing school representatives, other educators and district staff, DA developed a new prototype school for the School District.
The building massing optimizes the building enclosure and allows for a simple and efficient structural and mechanical design. Natural light penetration into the interior, a circulation system that eases Wayfinding through the school, and close connections between the assembly areas and classrooms will be featured. The classrooms are all clustered around project areas. The NLC allocation allows for an expanded Multipurpose Room, Gymnasium and a two-pod Childcare.
