A major grid and two axes structure the planning of Kwantlen College, Phase 1. The orthogonal field and window grid recalls the sectional pattern of rural Surrey and offers an opportunity to clarify orientation and movement while providing a structure for development and growth.
Functions are arranged outwards from the central plaza in accordance with the intensity of their use, moving from primary use spaces (library, cafeteria, bookstore, etc….) adjacent to the center through layers of classroom, faculty office and multi-discipline areas, culminating in green space at the extremities.
The buildings of the second phase of Kwantlen are wrapped around an inner courtyard and features a three story academic block, a two story administration wing, and an exciting new recreational facility. New office and cafeteria have also been provided for the Student Association.
