The Lift Bar & Grill is on a pier extending over the waters of Coal Harbour, offering outstanding views of Stanley Park and the North Shore mountains beyond.  The building’s curved roof concept is derived from boat hull and wave form imagery. The curve is wrapped with “fish scale” cladding materials echoing the neighbouring metal boat sheds. Teak, glass, and stainless-steel is eloquently used throughout the building compliment this feature. The interior space fully embraces the site and opens itself to the spectacular views through folding glass walls. A rooftop dining terrace allows for warmth under the sun at day or warmth from the fireplace at night. This project provided the opportunity to design a building that is expressive, using a variety of high-quality materials and finishes.

Lift Bar and Grill, located on the Coal Harbour waterfront, involved an extensive public process. Three previous designs by other firms had been completed and rejected. I'm quite proud of the building, its architectural response to the site, and its contribution to the community as a popular gathering place." Al Johnson
