The Kwantlen Polytechnic University Langley Campus consists of Academic, Careers and Vocational buildings. They are all located in one and two storey wings attached to a longitudinal circulation “spine”. Counterpoint to this pedestrian path is the centrally located “agora”, a student gathering place which opens up to Logan Creek and an extensive meadow area.
Building wings are separated by light-generating courtyards, and are landscaped as part of the campus horticultural training program. The scale of the building elements and their interrelationship with the rural site was a major consideration in planning. The land informs the materials, as well as the shape and orientation of the architecture. The academic activities are organized to encourage interaction between the students, faculty & visitors.
