DA worked with School District 43 (Coquitlam) in securing approval from the Ministry of Education for this four-classroom addition. We subsequently designed the addition to accommodate four classrooms, special education rooms and washrooms.

The addition is located on a challenging sloping site. The design evolved into a one-storey scheme that creates a contiguous learning environment with the existing school. The planning approach follows the pattern of the existing classrooms sharing a quiet room, while the corridor was reimagined as an expanded project space that takes advantage of the over-height ceilings. The brick at the base of the addition ties in with the existing brick. Seamlessly, the light metal top and the sloping green roofs blend the addition with the vocabulary of the existing building.
